JS Bailey was founded in 1984 by John Bailey.
The business was originally based in Nantwich in Cheshire, an area which already had a reputation for producing some of the nation’s favourite cheese and the home of the famous International Cheese Awards which have been taking place annually since 1897.
By locating his company in the UK’s centre of excellence, John was able to choose his suppliers from the very best available. As he established the business he selected the best cheese makers ranging from local producers where the cheese is made by hand to larger manufacturers from across the UK and Europe.
By 2000 we had outgrown our original home in Nantwich and moved to new premises down the road in Calveley, Cheshire.
The move to the 4 acre site allowed us to expand to meet the needs of our growing number of customers. As we grew we invested in quality manufacturing processes and an effective distribution network.
We achieved BRC (British Retail Consortium) accreditation and continued to grow the business.
We opened our on-site cafe and shop. A project which developed in response to demand, local people wanted to be able to buy our cheeses directly from us. The shop now stocks an extensive range of foods, drink and other products. The cafe has become a popular eating and meeting place and has a growing reputation for quality food.
We rebranded our flagship Calveley Mill
range of cheeses
A new logo was created for the premium range of cheeses and a complete range of packaging was created. The new logo is an illustration of Calveley Mill which we feel reflects our heritage and the brand.
The business has grown significantly in recent years and this was recognised in 2016 with our inclusion in the exclusive 1000 companies to inspire Britain list.
Despite our growth we remain an independent, family run business. Our staff have a wealth of experience in the industry and we boast a handpicked team of cheese experts. Over the years we’ve always stayed true to our original vision and believe this has been key to our success.
